The Big Help Short Story

"Savannah, honey, your father and I have something to tell you and Joannah," says mom in a very exited loud tone to my sister and I. As curious as I was, I knew it definitely had something to do with the Australian school application forms I found while looking for my iPod the other day.

Mom continued, "This may come as a surprise to you both but your father and I have decided to put you two in school in Australia." Many thoughts raced throught my head. The first one was "oh my god, what am I going to do, I think they're really serious about this". I stared at my sister and she did likewise. I was shocked beyond belief.

"Mom, Dad, are you really serious about this? I mean, do we get a say in this?" my sister, Joannah asked. "Honey, yes, of course you do but before that I feel you should think about this long and hard. I know its going to be a hard decision for you because you built your childhood up here and you're both still very young but all we're saying is maybe a change in your studying environment would be a great thing for you kids.

I look at Joannah and she looks at me again. I reply to my parents saying " Mom, Dad, we'll think about it, okay? I know you want this for us but I'm glad you think we should have a say in this and I'm sure like me, Joannah too wouldn't want to make a rash decision that may make us regret"

"Alright then my pretty angels, its a school night, its about time you turn off the lights now but promise me you'll give it a thought at least?"

Joannah and I shrug " Yeeeessss Dad !" and he turn off the lights. That is when our real conversation started. We had a silent five minutes until I couldn't stand it anymore - there was just too many things going on in my head- I asked Joannah " Hey, Joey? You awake?"

"Yes," she replied.
"What do you think? Should we agree?" I asked.
"Maybe, I mean think about it, not many people we know got an opportunity like this. Some people don't even get an education overseas. I know it'll be hard at first but it will definitely take a lot of hard work to get used to it but its a completely different lifestyle in Melbourne and maybe it would be a good thing to do."
"Yes, I think I feel the same. Its just that I've got all my memories left here. I don't feel like stashing them away in a box and making new ones. I have friends here and good ones, we've got loads of family around ! I don't want to have to give it all up !"
"Savannah, you know you think too much sometimes. Friends, if they're true, they'll last forever and family? Whether you like it or not, sister, we're gonna be family. Born that way and it'll stick all the way, Savves." chuckles my little sister.
"So, I take it you agree then, with mom and dad's bright little idea?"
"Yes, I guess I'm up for new adventures now. How often do you get to start your life all over again? Don't wory too much, it'll be just fine. We'll always have each other! What do you say?"
" Alright then, if you're in, then I'm in too."

1 year later, Savannah and Joannah moved to Melbourne. They love it there and have no regrets moving. Everything is going well down under. They have new friends and they have learnt new thing. After all, what is life if not an adventure?
